DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) is a nine-residue peptide that Guido Schoenenberger and Marcel Monnier's group isolated from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits in 1977 and named for the delta wave sleep it produced when infused into other animals. Every published human study used slow intravenous infusion: a handful of small sleep-laboratory investigations in Switzerland, Uruguay and the Netherlands that disagreed about whether it changed sleep at all, open-label series in alcohol and opiate withdrawal, and a seven-patient pilot in chronic pain. The FDA evaluated emideltide, the compounding name for DSIP, in 2026 and reported an animal plasma half-life under 10 minutes, no pharmacokinetic or safety data for the subcutaneous route that vendors sell, and insufficient evidence of effectiveness for insomnia, narcolepsy or opioid withdrawal. The nominations to allow compounding with it were withdrawn, an April 2026 update moved it from the agency's Category 2 safety-risk table into a list of withdrawn nominations, and FDA then proposed that neither the free base nor the acetate be added to the 503A Bulks List. It is approved nowhere and has never been the subject of a registered trial.
